2010 Starts Out with a Bang!
We have had an exciting time since the first of the year here at Hands of Hope! Mission Aviation Fellowship contacted us and asked us to partner with them on sending relief supplies to Haiti. The community responded in an amazing way with over 45,000 pounds of medical supplies, food, tents, and blankets for the Haitian people. Seventy-three pallets were loaded on three 26' trucks on February 11th and driven to Florida. They were then flown by C-130 cargo plane to Haiti.
Our volunteers worked many extra hours to unpack all the donations that arrived here and then repack them in boxes ready for shipment. We couldn't do this without them! World Concern is responsible for the distribution of the goods when they reach Haiti. The opportunity to partner with like-minded organizations gives such a sense of cooperation and selflessness.We also sent shipments to Ukraine, Kenya, Guatemala, and the Philippines since the first of January! Not only do the supplies that we send help many people around the world, but most of these items would have been thrown away and added to our landfills. In 2009 Hands of Hope recycled 78 tons or 155,500 pounds of medical supplies and equipment. This is truly a win-win situation!
