25 Years of Hope Event Postponement

by

The Hands of Hope NW Board has decided to postpone our 25th Anniversary Celebration scheduled for October 14th based on current Covid data particularly in Canyon County where the event was to take place.

The event will be rescheduled for Spring 2022. We are currently working with College Church of the Nazarene to reserve a date in March and will publish the new date when known.

The Board will continue to monitor Covid data over the coming months, and ticket holders, event sponsors, and other participants will be contacted closer to the rescheduled date when details are final.

Hands of Hope NW is a partner with the healthcare industry, and we are aware of the situation in our local hospitals. The board wishes to support our healthcare partners and take precautionary measures to keep health and safety paramount in our planning.

This decision hasn’t changed our excitement about celebrating “25 Years of Hope.” Over the years, we have witnessed God’s provision and timing when serving people in need through our international medical shipments. And we are honored to continue providing Treasure Valley residents with durable medical equipment through our Local Loan program, often sending out 20 pieces of medical equipment daily.

We hope you will continue to support Hands of Hope NW with your contributions through this difficult time as people still need our help, both locally and globally. We would appreciate your prayers as we navigate this pandemic.

All sponsorships and ticket purchases will be applied to the future celebration. Recognition of sponsors will be continually displayed until that time as well.

If ticket holders or sponsors would prefer to receive a refund, please call our office at 208-461-1473 and ask for Janet.

Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page to get ministry updates.

During my devotions the other day, I came across Psalm 33:11—“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.” His Word is Timeless and His Promises are Everlasting! It is important for us to remember that God’s laws and His will do not change. The world around us seems to be changing faster and faster. As Christians, we can hold fast to that verse. During these trying times, turn off the TV, radio, and internet and search for God’s will in the Bible. I pray that each of you will find peace during these challenging days.

Our Local Loan Program continues to be busy. It’s a great blessing to us to be able to help those in need here at home.

July Director’s Note

by

We are finally getting back to normal. We waited six months to find the correct person to be our next Office Admin. I believe God has chosen the right person and we just needed to be patient—another reminder that God’s timing is perfect.

Speaking of timing, getting shipments out has been horrific! Ports around the world are opening and closing all the time. They close when there is no more storage available and open once they have room. Trying to schedule live loads and time the containers to arrive at the port in time to be loaded on to a ship is a tedious task. I’m glad that it’s not my responsibility to schedule all that. Our warehouse volunteers and loading crew have shown great patience as we rescheduled the Syria shipment 5 times over 20 days. Please keep our shipping partners in prayer that our containers make it to their destinations.

Our 25th Anniversary will be celebrated on Thursday, October 14th. Look for more information as we continue to plan for this momentous celebration.

Papua New Guinea Shipment

by

We continue to send supplies to the Nazarene hospital in Kudjip. It’s hard to believe that our first shipment back in 1992 was sent to Kudjip. Currently, the medical supplies are driven over to Todd Winters in Medford, Oregon, and added to other items he has collected, then sent to PNG. We are thankful for the ongoing relationship and the ability to help the people of PNG.

Pictured is the first shipment. Only with God’s blessings and the continued support from you of both time and money could we be where we are today. Going from a closet to our ministry center today could only happen with God’s help. For all those that gave time, money, and items—THANK YOU!

Guatemala Shipment

by

On July 8th, we loaded and shipped a 40-foot shipping container headed to Guatemala. This shipment is headed for Transitions Foundation in Antigua, Guatemala. This foundation helps people with mobility issues.

The shipment included 201 wheelchairs, 154 canes, 93 pairs of crutches and various other medical equipment and supplies. This is our 7th shipment to Transitions Foundation since 2004.

6th Syria Shipment on its Way

by

On June 4th we loaded and shipped a 40-foot shipping container headed to Northern Syria. 100-degree heat in a metal box did not deter this group from getting the job done. This shipment is sponsored by Global Gateway Network and Multi-Faith Alliance for Syrian Refugees. This is the sixth shipment we have sent to Syria. We are currently working on sending a seventh within the next month.

5th Syria Shipment Arrival

by

Micah Smith of Global Gateway Network sent these photos showing our last Syria shipment arriving at a Mediterranean port on February 19th. From there the medical supplies were loaded into a truck and traveled to a clinic where they will help to provide displaced Syrians with medical treatment.

New Office Admin – Janet Hascall

by

Janet Hascall has joined the HoHNW staff as our Office Administrator. Here’s her story in her own words:

“Greetings, I am Janet [Mathisen] Hascall. Just a little snippet about me and what brought me to Hands of Hope NW… I am a local gal, love Jesus and His Word!

In 2005, I was praying about going to Thailand to support the mission field, and as I was nearly ready to pack up my home (then in Boise), I got a call for a full-time paid job in a different kind of ministry; to every tongue, tribe and nation here in the United States—The Silicon Valley. I had done local and international volunteer work with Genesis World Mission and Expansion International, and my local church’s missions board. This, however, was an entirely different ministry – to the high tech, start-up world of people consumed with money, prestige and self-promotion. I worked as a start-up specialist in setting up offices, documentation, Executive support and many more hats that starting companies/ manufacturing & businesses require. I worked with brilliant PHD’s and laborers with English as their second language, many of whom often scoffed at my beliefs and faith in a God who heals, restores and saves—until their lives hit a crisis point, and then I had precious times to pray with them and share God’s peace, grace and love.

I had planned to move to the mountains of North Idaho in 2019, but God had other plans. He was directing me back home. Kathy Johnson sent out a group text to several of her friends about an opening here at HOHNW, my sister Laurie being one of them. I love how God uses us to “network” His will and direction. I am excited to meet the hands and feet that make this organization function. I hope that once I get a grasp of the office routine, I can soon make more time to get to know people.” – Janet Hascall

February Director’s Note

by

As many of you know, I tested positive for the COVID virus. The first few days were a little rough but I started feeling better quickly. Now I’m working through fatigue. Sleeping 12-16 hours is not normal for me. Hopefully this phase will show improvement soon. Several of the staff and volunteers also contracted the virus. All are doing well and are back to work. Continue to pray for HoHNW as we work through all of this.

Looking forward, we have several shipments in the works. Guatemala and Syria will go first, then Kenya. With the area hospitals doing surgeries again, our local loan program has been very busy. We are very grateful for our front desk volunteers and all the work they do to help people in the Valley. October will mark our 25th year anniversary. We will be announcing our celebration plans soon. Stay tuned!

Check out our Facebook page for more information on what’s going on.
